As Ramadan graces us with its presence, finding nutritious and quick recipes becomes a priority for many. Among the plethora of dishes one might consider, a chickpea salad stands out as a perfect fit for the holy month. It’s not only easy to whip up but also packed with nutrients, making it an excellent choice for both Iftar and Suhoor.
This chickpea salad recipe is not just healthy, delicious, and filling; it’s a versatile gem for any occasion. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party and need a standout side dish or looking for a nutritious lunch option that keeps you full, this recipe ticks all the boxes. Inspired by the rich flavors of Desi cuisine, it’s a nod to my love for vibrant, Daisy (Desi) flavors that bring a meal to life.

What makes this chickpea salad particularly special is its make-ahead friendliness. You can chop, boil, and prep all the ingredients in advance. Then, simply mix in the yogurt right before serving to keep everything fresh. The star of the show? A tangy tamarind chutney that adds an irresistible kick, proving that eating healthy is anything but boring.
Remember, the key to a great chickpea salad lies in its freshness and the blend of flavors. My pro tip: save this recipe for an easy, go-to option that never disappoints. Embrace the joy of healthy eating without sacrificing taste. Enjoy this chickpea salad and let it transform your meals. You can’t go wrong with it!

Ingredients
- 1 can of chickpeas (around 400 ml), drained and rinsed
- 1 medium tomato, chopped
- 1 large boiled potato, cut into cubes
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped (preferably soaked in water for a few minutes to take the edge off)
- 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
- 1 small green chilli, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp finely chopped mint
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- Dressing:
- 2/3 cup of yoghurt (ensure it's slightly watery for easy mixing)
- 1/4 cup of tamarind & date sauce (store-bought works great)
- 1/3 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tbsp chaat masala
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3/4 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chickpeas, chopped tomato, boiled potato cubes, finely chopped onion, cilantro, green chilli, and mint. Gently mix to combine these ingredients well.
- In a separate bowl, prepare the dressing by whisking together the yoghurt, tamarind & date sauce, red chilli powder, cumin powder, chaat masala, sugar, and salt until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the dressing over the salad and add the lemon juice. Toss everything together until the salad is evenly coated with the dressing.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. For the best flavor, let the salad sit for about 10 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
